The Caulfield Collections's star item, this exclusive Trinity Chessboard has been lovingly made using Trinity wood and is adorned with artwork from the Book of Kells. Each board is uniquely created and can be personalised for the chess master.
The chess pieces have been meticulously handcrafted in Ireland by Mullingar Pewter, with each piece depicting the battle between the invading Vikings and Irish monks around the 9th century.
795 AD saw the beginning of Viking raids on the monks at Iona, where The Book of Kells is said to have originated. To safeguard relics such as The Book of Kells, fleeing monks took the sacred text with them to their sister monastery in Kells, Co. Meath in 804 AD
