New Arrivals - Just In Time For Green Week at Trinity College Dublin

Green Week: 20th - 24th March, 2023

Every year Trinity College Dublin hosts an annual event to raise awareness of the importance of sustainability. This event is known as Green Week. Green Week focuses on raising awareness about sustainability and promoting environmentally-friendly practices. The event usually takes place in March around St. Patrick's Day and includes a range of activities, such as talks, workshops, film screenings, and exhibits. This year the event will take place from Monday the 20th of March until Friday the 24th of March.

During Green Week, students, staff, and members of the community are encouraged to learn about environmental issues, take action to reduce their environmental impact, and engage in discussions about sustainability. The event also provides opportunities to showcase sustainable initiatives and projects undertaken by members of the Trinity community. Some topics typically covered during Green Week include climate change, waste reduction, energy efficiency, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable transportation. The event is organised by the Trinity College Dublin Green Campus Committee, responsible for promoting sustainability on campus throughout the year.

Sustainability is also just as crucial to Trinity Gift Shop as it is to the university. Keeping sustainability in mind, let's take a closer look at some of the gifts available in Trinity Gift Shop that support this initiative.

Trinity College Dublin Sustainable Cotton Collection

The Trinity College Dublin Sustainable Cotton Collection has just arrived at Trinity Gift Shop. This collection includes hoodies, sweatshirts and t-shirts. As Trinity College Dublin is dedicated to promoting sustainability through its strategic plan it made sense to create a collection such as this. The clothing within this collection is created from 100% BCI cotton. This cotton is grown using the Better Cotton Initiative. This program supports farmers and their communities, resulting in better conditions and improved environmental outcomes. The burgundy sweater featured is just one of the many pieces included in this collection. All clothing within the collection provides premium comfort and a relaxed fit. The entire collection can be viewed here.

Caulfield Country Boards

Functional, beautiful, sustainable and social are the words best used to describe the Caulfield Country Boards Collection which we stock here at Trinity Gift Shop. This exclusive collection was designed and created in Kells, Co. Meath. Caulfield Country Boards was first established in 1978 by Pearse and Louise Caulfield's father who was a Hardwood Joiner. The company is now run by Pearse and Louise who are both alumni of Trinity College Dublin.

The pieces created for this collection are created using timber from trees that were felled by the Botany Department of Trinity from the Campus grounds in Dublin city centre and from Dartry in Dublin 6, Ireland. All Caulfield Country Boards products are handmade and upcycled, using sustainable hardwoods and minimal packaging. The collection includes The Trinity College Dublin Pen and Presentation Box, Trinity College Dublin Wine Rack, Trinity College Dublin Coasters and a Trinity College Dublin Chest Set.

Jando X Trinity Gift Shop

Jando is a multi-award-winning printmaker based in Dublin. Jando was founded in 2015 by husband and wife Owen and Julie McLoughlin. Jando was inspired by the heritage and architecture of Trinity College Dublin. This inspiration leads to the creation of the Dublin Town series which includes famous landmarks of the Trinity Campus including the bell tower or Campanile and the famous Trinity building itself.

Sustainability is also very important to the founders of Jando due to this all Jando prints are packaged in clear protective sleeves made from corn starch and are 100% biodegradable.

Carbon Neutral Shipping

At Trinity Gift Shop we chose UPS to deliver your gifts directly to you or your loved one. UPS are a Carbon Neutral Shipment company meaning that the transportation process where the amount of carbon emissions generated during the shipment is offset by an equivalent amount of carbon reduction or removal from the atmosphere. The idea behind carbon-neutral shipment is to achieve net-zero carbon emissions, meaning that the emissions generated during the shipment are balanced out by the removal or reduction of an equivalent amount of carbon elsewhere. By choosing this type of shipment we are reducing on carbon footprint.
